A Near Miss is an unplanned event or incident that did not result in an injury or loss of any kind, but could have easily done so.
Examples of a Near Miss:
Slips or Trips
Dropping items
Worn tools or equipment
Damaged items
Cut fingers
Hit heads
Vehicle incidents
Bruised ego
It is important to report a near miss so that action can be taken to prevent an accident occurring.
Notify all near misses to a supervisor or manager as soon as possible. They will love to have the evidence to show the company is health and safety engaged!
